We all know that Janmashtami is the day of Lord Krishna’s birth. But have you ever thought of the spiritual significance of the day?

The Krishna avatar is known to bring a sense of self-realization. When we speak of self-realization, this is mainly the removal of ignorance, which is the crux of negative thoughts and desires. If you consider the entire scene of Krishna’s birth, every element is symbolic. For instance, the prison is a symbol of ignorance. Here, this just shows the narrow-minded approach, and the darkness, which mainly encapsulates the negative human feelings like ego, desires, greed, and all things bad.

The birth of Lord Krishna was self-realization and a way out of ignorance. The birth of Krishna was a means to break the chains of his father and allowed him to be freed from jail. The chains signified the five senses and also symbolizes negative emotions like lust, desires, greed, and bondage. The sleeping guards symbolized, how self-realization can help an individual completely cut off and get detached, thereby perishing everything else.

The thunder and the storm are a sign of the level of internal turmoil that exists within a human, due to all the desires and hatred. This turbulent water and storm are seen to come under control as soon as Krishna’s feet touched the water. This signifies that, by turning towards purity and pure consciousness, any issues and turbulent state of mind can be controlled. It is important that an individual is able to control the ego and focus their attention inwards towards keeping a clean heart and clear conscientiousness. The control of the ego is depicted by the snake sitting on the basket and guarding Lord Krishna.

So, as mentioned earlier, we celebrate Janmashtami not just to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna, but to understand such important aspects of life. Purity and clean conscious nature without ego and greed always win. Keeping your intentions right is the most essential for any individual. Irrespective of who you are, where you belong, having any negative intentions and negativity will only lead to more downfall, rather than any positive growth.

Spiritual growth does not only mean knowing your scriptures and putting up a façade. It is enlightenment that comes from within. When an individual is able to look within themselves and identify their issues and mistakes, there is a stronger chance for the person to have strong self-realization.

Janmashtami brings to us, a new leaf, a new beginning, where we can improve and be better people. Better as a person, is more self-conscious, righteous, and free from negative emotions like greed, ego, selfishness, and negative emotions which can cause harm to others. Let us all use this time to learn, self-reflect and make positive changes and move in the spiritual direction and improve our perspective by looking inwards, and not judging people.

May this Janmashtami bring lots of love, harmony, and success to all our readers, and please be blessed with the uniqueness and purity of Lord Krishna.
